The McCook Community College volleyball team lost in straight sets Friday to No. 9 Western Nebraska, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20.
The Cougars (13-4) came out and dominated play in the first five points of each set.
“I thought we were ready for this match, but we didn’t execute anything we worked on all week,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.”
Sophomore Kallie Cathcart (Holly, Colo.) and freshman Jordan Jerome (Rawlins, Wyo.) both had nine kills to lead the MCC attack. Cathcart also had nine digs. Fernanda Canedo (Cochabamba, Boliva) had eight kills, nine digs and two assist blocks.

Sophomore Emily Barr (Hershey) had two kills and one ace. Freshman Suzy Cordova (Fort Collins, Colo.) had three assist blocks.
“Coach Nothnagel said it he best, ‘losing is very humbling’ but we are strong women and we just want to come out and play better the next set,” Kobza said. “Don’t’ let losses define you let them make you into a better player.”
MCC goes to 7-4 on the season and 2-1 in Region IX South play. The Lady Indians will host No. 15 Northeastern Junior College (11-6) at 6 p.m. Saturday.
“Tomorrow is another tough match we have to come out and do what we executed in practice,” said Kobza.
