Field Mechanic - Full Time

Adams Construction specializes in heavy highway construction and all types of grading. They are family owned and headquartered out of Arapahoe, Nebraska. They are looking for an experienced Field Mechanic to join their team! Adams Construction primarily does work in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. They would like a Field Mechanic to be located somewhere in the area of Eastern Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas or Nebraska! The Field Mechanic will travel with the road crew and provide mechanic support to make sure the equipment is running safely and efficiently. 

Field Mechanic Compensation and Benefits:

  • Pay: $22-27 per hour based on experience
  • Overtime paid for hours worked over 8 hours per day
  • Per diem: pro-rated from $45 a day and up, tax free

The Field Mechanic would be responsible for diagnosing and repairing all issues with CAT and John Deere equipment, along with some semi-trucks used on the job sites. The Field Mechanic would travel with the road crew and provide mechanic support to make sure the equipment is running safely and efficiently. The ideal applicant would have five or more years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, have strong communication and organizational skills, and enjoy traveling.  

Field Mechanic Job Duties include: 

  • Successfully diagnosing and repairing late and newer model CAT and John Deere equipment, semi-trucks, water trucks and side dumps
  • Knowledge with Tier 4 final engine diagnosing and repairing
  • Electrical troubleshooting and repairs
  • Replace hydraulic hoses 
  • A/C Unit repairs  
  • Oil and fluid changes  
  • Ability to complete general maintenance and repairs on 15-20 pieces of equipment in the field on a regular basis 
  • Work with dealer mechanics to schedule major repairs if needed 
  • Order appropriate parts for repairs
  • Schedule machines for service 
  • Successfully communicate with the Superintendent and Operators on a daily basis 


The Field Mechanic must have an acceptable driving record as reflected by MVR. A Class B CDL and medical card is required for this position as the Field Mechanic will be driving a Service Truck with a Boom Lift. The Field Mechanic is required to bring their own basic tools, however Adams Construction will provide any Specialty tools needed. 

The work schedule is dependent on each job. However, most jobs are Monday – Friday. 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, the last working day of the schedule 7 AM – 4:30 PM.
