A New Traffic Violation Scam Targets Nebraskans via Text Message
May 1, 2026 A new ongoing traffic-related scam is being sent via text message to try and steal personal data. Scammers are sending text messages or emails claiming the recipient has an unpaid traffic fine. The message threatens additional penalties unless the recipient clicks a link to pay the supposed fines. These messages are intended to steal your personal or financial information and are not legitimate court communications.
Do not click the link in any text or email without first checking the information. Nebraska courts will only send text messages if you have already provided the court with your information and permission to text you.
If you owe a court fine, you can pay in-person or through the court’s online payment system.
