August 2025 Traffic Fatality Toll

 During the month of August 2025, twenty-two people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.  

¨      These 22 fatalities occurred in 19 fatal crashes.

¨      Thirteen of the fifteen vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, two were using a seatbelt, and zero had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.

¨      Fifteen of the fatalities were in rural locations*.

¨      There were two fatalities on the interstate, eleven on other highways, and nine on local roads.

¨      Three of the fatalities were pedestrians.

¨      Four of the fatalities were motorcyclists.

 There were 19 fatalities in August of 2024.
Only 38 of the 110 vehicle occupants killed during 2025 were using seatbelts.
 
*The Federal Highway Administration definition for urban is an area with a population of 5,000 or more.
