Jordyn Bahl knocked a home run and saw her second straight outing with a one-hit shutout as the No. 20 Nebraska softball team defeated the Maryland Terrapins, 6-0, on Friday evening at Bowlin Stadium. There were two lightning delays in the game, but the Big Red was undeterred and grabbed the shutout win.
Bahl was one of three Huskers to homer on the day, as Lauren Camenzind and Samantha Bland added one apiece. NU now has 96 home runs on the season and is four away from becoming the fourth Big Ten team to hit 100+ home runs in a season.
Hannah Camenzind added two RBIs on the day and Olivia DiNardo notched two hits.
Bahl (21-5) claimed the win in the circle, pitching a complete-game shutout with only one hit and no balls out of the infield. Bahl also struck out nine batters. Julia Shearer (3-12) took the loss for Maryland.
The Big Red moved to 36-12 (15-5 Big Ten) on the season, while the Terrapins fell to 18-29 (3-17 Big Ten).
NU got on the board first in the bottom of the first. Bland and Ava Kuszak both singled and a H. Camenzind double sent them both across the plate to make the score 2-0.
H. Camenzind knocked a solo home run to get the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth. Bahl followed with a single, then she stole second. A DiNardo single sent Bahl across the plate and extended the lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Bahl and Bland hit back-to-back solo home runs to make the score 6-0. NU never looked back and grabbed the shutout victory.
The Huskers will take on the Terrapins again tomorrow, May 3 at 1 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
