Indians outscore Trinidad 34-1 in Saturday sweep.

The McCook Community College baseball team outscored Trinidad State in two games Saturday 34-1 in taking both ends of a doubleheader, 10-0 and 24-1 to complete the four-game sweep over the Trojans.

“I’m very happy with the day, I thought we pitched really well,” said MCC Coach Jon Olsen.

Aviv Bobrov (freshman, Shekhanya, Israel) pitched five no-hit innings for MCC in Game 1 and the offense put the game away with four runs in the sixth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule. Colby Kaplan (freshman, Parker, Colo.) pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

“Aviv was good but left with an injury, and it’s unfortunate because he went out with a no-hitter in tack,” said Olsen, “But Colby threw a great sixth.”

After scoring four runs each in the first and third innings, the Indians busted the game open with 15 runs in the third inning of Game 2. The first 14 hitters in the inning reached base. Sophomore Owen Glover (Elderslie, New South Wales) hit a grand slam in the middle of the on-base streak and had six RBIs in the game and sophomore Cory Wouters (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) also had six RBIs with a three-hit game.

Sophomore Myles Chabi (Sydney, Australia) pitched four shutout innings and sophomore Leif Friedrich (Surrey, British Columbia) pitched the final three innings for the Indians.

“Chabi had another great start and Leif came in and did what he needed too, good to see.  I thought we played really good defense on the weekend, strikes and defense.

With the two losses Trinidad State falls to 4-14 in the Empire League standings (Region IX) and 12-20 on the season.

MCC improves to 8-10 in the standings and 20-23 overall.

The Indians will be home Tuesday to host Colby Community College at 3:30 p.m. This weekend the Indians will be in Region IX play where they have won seven of their last games. MCC travels to Lamar, Colo. for a pair of Region IX doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.

“Our lineup is starting to gel a bit and we are getting production up and down the lineup,” said Olsen. “We’ve played well the last two weekends, and it would be good to keep it going.”
