HOBBS, N. M. – The South Plains College Texans went on a 10-0 run to start the second quarter Saturday on the way to a 64-37 win over the McCook Community College women in the Hobbs Classic at New Mexico Junior College.

MCC led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter but South Plains scored 10 unanswered points over the first 4:27 of the second quarter and held the MCC offense to just 25 points over the final 30 minutes of the game. This was the Lady Indians' lowest point total of the season.

MCC turned the ball over 24 times Saturday, gave up 20 offensive rebounds and shot 30 percent from the field.

South Plains took 25 more shots than MCC, hitting on 35.4 percent on 65 field goals, went six-for-20 from the 3-point line and made 12 of 19 free throws (63.2 percent). The Texans had a 42-27 rebounding advantage and outscored MCC's bench 33-0.

Sophomore Gemma Gruettner Bacoul (Berlin, Germany) led MCC with 16 points and had eight rebounds. Suzan Sisman (sophomore, Aarhus, Denmark) scored 13 points and was three of six from the 3-point line.

The only other MCC players who scored were sophomores Rebecca Dunn (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Noa Iglesias Chorda (Barcelona, Spain) who both had four points. Dunn also had eight rebounds.

The Texans improve to 7-6 on the season.

MCC goes to 7-6 and will close out the semester Sunday in a 1 p.m. game against Casper College.
