MCC Baseball loses doubleheader to Southeast CC

The McCook Community College baseball team lost a pair of Region IX games Friday at home, losing to Southeast Community College 8-4, 9-6.

Both teams have already clinched two of the six spots in the Region IX tournament May 8-11 in Pueblo, Colo.

Southeast goes to 30-19 overall and leads the Empire League standings and 21-5. MCC is fourth and goes to 13-13 in the region. The Indians go to 26-27 on the season,

These two teams will wrap up the regular season Saturday at the Jaycees Sports Complex with two games starting at 1 p.m.

GAME 1 –Southeast CC 8, McCook 4: Southeast took control of the game early with two runs in the first inning, four more in the second and took an 8-0 lead with two runs in the third inning.

Sophomore Myles Chabi (Sydney, Australia) pitched two innings allowing five hits and six earned runs on one walk and three strikeouts.

The Indians sent eight hitters to the plate in the third inning but only scored two runs. The first came home on a bases-loaded walk with sophomore Cory Wouters (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) getting the RBI. Freshman Dalton Berg (Frederick, Colo.) batted home the second run on an RBI-groundout but with one out and the bases loaded, MCC left three runners stranded.

Freshman Elvis Conte (Fort Collins, Colo.) allowed two earned runs in the first of his four innings pitched. He allowed three hits, walked five and struck out three.

Parker Wilson (freshman, Tulsa, Okla.) pitched the final inning of the game walking one and striking out one.

Sophomore Nathan Hutchison (Riverton, Wyo.) singled to lead off the MCC seventh and scored on Wouter’s two-run home run for the final run of the game.

The Indians were held to four hits in the game, with two by Wouters and one by Hutchison and the other by freshman Carter Smith (Ottawa, Canada).

GAME 2 – Southeast CC 9, McCook 6: After the Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the second inning MCC scored a run in the bottom of the inning on one-out singles by Maddox Shaver (sophomore Belleville, Ontario) and Mason Regan (freshman, Centennial, Colo.) and a sacrifice RBI-bunt by Landon McKillip (freshman, Lamoni, Iowa).

The Indians tied the game in the fifth with an RBI-single by Owen Glover (sophomore, Elderslie, New South Wales).

Southeast claimed the lead for good with two runs in the sixth inning off starting pitcher Landon Molloy (freshman, Parker, Colo.). Molloy allowed six hits in his six innings of work and walked two.

Leading 4-2 in the seventh, the Bobcats scored four runs to take an 8-2 lead.

Wouters hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. After the Bobcats scored another run in the eighth, MCC mounted a comeback. Shaver doubled with one out and scored on an RBI-single from McKillip and with two outs Wouters singled home two more to make it a 9-6 game.

Tait Anderson (freshman, Auckland, New Zealand) pitched the final three innings for the Indians, allowing five hits and one earned run on one walk and two strikeouts. MCC committed three errors in the game leading to four unearned runs.

The Indians outhit SECC 12-11. Wouters had a four-hit game, Shaver and Regan both had two hit games.
