MCC golfers seventh at Nebraska Intercollegiate

McCook Community College Golf

FREMONT, Neb. – The McCook Community College golf team finished seventh at the 2025 Nebraska Intercollegiate Golf Championships which concluded Tuesday at the Fremont Country Club. The field included five NAIA schools and three community colleges.

Midland University claimed the team title with a 58 – five shots better than second place Doane University. Southeast Community College was third with a +21. The Bobcats were the best of the three junior college teams with a 589, MCC second with 634 and Central Community College third with 646.

MCC trailed the field after Monday’s round but made up nine strokes on seventh place Central CC Tuesday and finished 12 shots ahead of the Raiders. The Indians had rounds of 321 and 313.

“There were some positives to take away from this week in Fremont, but we’re still struggling to all piece it together at the same time,” said MCC Coach Grant Case.

Doane’s Cauy Walters and Nebraska Wesleyan JV’s Brayden Schram tied for the individual title with two-day scores of 138. Both were four-under par for the tournament.

MCC freshman Jeb Kastens (Rawlins County High School, Atwood, Kan.) led MCC with a two-day score of 153, which was +11. He posted a 74 Monday and a 79 Tuesday. Joackym Mahy (freshman, Andenne, Belgium) was +15 for the tournament shooting rounds of 75 and 82 for a 157.

“Jeb and Joackym both turned in solid rounds Monday, but neither of them had their best stuff today,” said Case.

Louis Yin (freshman, Tainan, Taiwan) was +18 with scores of 84 and 76 (160). Freshman Braiden Portie (Arvada, Colo.) carded rounds of 88 and 76 for a two-day 164. Yin and Portie’s 76 Tuesday were tied for team best for the day.

“Louis was able to bounce back after a rough start Monday with a solid score Tuesday,” said Case. “And I’m very happy for Braiden putting together a good score Tuesday after struggling for the majority of the fall season, it’s good to see his game headed in a positive direction.”

Freshman Jalen Collicott (McCook) posted rounds of 92 and 88 for a180.

MCC is tentatively set to go to Wichita, Kan. Monday for the two-day Friends University Falcon Cup to conclude the fall schedule for the Indians. They will begin the spring schedule March 19-20 at the Lamar/Otero combined tournament. The spring MCC Invitational will be the second tournament on the spring slate March 26-27.
