MCC’s Diawara tabbed all Region IX South

McCook Community College freshman Djibril Diawara has been named to the All-Region IX South team by a vote of Region IX south coaches.

Diawara (Aulnay-sous-Bois, France), started in 29 of MCC's 32 games and led the Indians and all Region IX south players scoring 20.7 points per game along with 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. Against Region IX south opponents, he averaged 24.4 points per game and in seven February games, he averaged 26.6 points per game.

He shot 44.1 percent from the field, 36.6 percent from the 3-point line and 87.1 percent from the free-throw line (second-best in the south region.)

In 30 games, he scored in double-digits 28 times, topping the 20-point mark 18 times and twice topping 30 points. He scored 33 points against Otero Jan. 17, hitting 10 of 18 field goals, two of nine treys and making all 11 of his free throws. His season-high came Feb. 4 against Lamar at home when he went for 36 points on a night he made seven of 12 3-pointers, went 13 of 22 overall from the field and three-for-three from the free-throw line

His 109 made-3-pointers ranked third among all NJCAA players through the region tournaments.
