SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The McCook Community College volleyball team took Western Nebraska to five sets Wednesday but dropped the match in a battle between two of the three remaining unbeaten teams in Region IX South.

Western Nebraska won 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 15-13.

“We just didn’t play clean tonight,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. “We had a total of 50 unforced errors, which is pretty much half a match.”

For the match the Lady Indians were guilty of 35 hitting errors, seven service errors and seven serve receive errors. MCC hit .125 for the match to .232 for Western Nebraska.

After the Cougars took the first set, MCC battled to win the second and third sets. Both those sets featured nine tie scores with the second set having four lead changes and the third set two lead changes. In the fourth set, the two teams exchanged the lead nine times with 14 tie scores.

“Overall, I thought we passed well on serve receive and with that we should have played cleaner at the net,” said Kobza.

Jade Powell (freshman, Sterling, Colo.) had 13 kills, 12 digs, one solo block and three assist blocks. Shana Muller (sophomore, Gretz-Armainvilliers, France) added 13 kills and one assist block.
