McCook Tennis Coach Matt Wiemers Wins Jerry Stine Award

McCook High School Head Tennis Coach Matt Wiemers recently attended the Nebraska Coaches Association awards banquet, held July 20th in Lincoln at the historic Rail Yard.
Coach Wiemers was selected by his coaching peers as the Coach of The Year, making him a four time Coach of The Year award recipient. He also received a state champion coach award, which was the third award earned in his coaching career, all at McCook High School. The highlight of his evening was capped off with the Level IV coaching award. Coach Wiemers joins the elite coaching level, as only the third tennis coach in the state to earn the highest honor, joining long time Kearney High coach Les Livingston and current Elkhorn South coach Steve Bischoff. Throughout his 26 year coaching career, he has amassed a 1,996 wins and 423 losses record. Coach Wiemers has served the McCook School District as a physical education teacher at McCook Junior High, Central Elementary and is currently teaching at McCook Elementary.
The Jerry Stine award program was a result of the timeless efforts of former NCA President Jerry Stine, who after much research and comparison of other state's awards programs developed this award program. In April of 2012, the NCA Board officially renamed the award program as the Jerry Stine Family Milestone Awards. Also in 2012, Baden Sports became the official sponsor of the Milestone Award Program.
This program recognizes different levels of achievement in both individual and team sports. The Level I, II, and III certificates will be presented at the clinic while the Level IV plaque will be presented at the banquet.
