Multi-Agency Effort Leads to Arrest After Omaha Pursuit

Nebraska State Patrol Helicopter

July 11, 2026 (Omaha, Neb.)  — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Omaha Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested one person after a pursuit in Omaha.

Friday at approximately 10:10 p.m., a trooper saw a motorcycle driving recklessly on I-680 near West Maple Road. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the rider refused to stop and accelerated to over 140 miles per hour. The trooper contacted OPD’s Able-1, which took over the pursuit from the air. OPD pilots followed the motorcycle for several miles as it fled westbound at high speeds. It then turned back eastbound and traveled to a neighborhood near I-680 and Maple. The driver then stopped and entered a residence.

OPD pilots directed troopers and Douglas County deputies to the residence. Troopers made repeated announcements telling the rider to exit the home. After numerous attempts, authorities were able to make phone contact with the rider, who then exited the home voluntarily.

The rider, Jacobbie Mengel, 29, of Omaha, was arrested for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, obstructing a peace officer, failure to obey a lawful order, no operator’s license, and traffic violations. He was lodged in Douglas County Corrections.
