Nine Indians Receive All-Region Baseball Honors


Nine members of the 2024 McCook Community College baseball team have earned Region IX post-season honors. The Indians placed one player on the first team, four on the second team, one on the all-defensive team and three players received honorable mention.

Sophomore Aiden Johnson (Westminster, Colo.) was the lone MCC player receiving first-team honors. He led the pitching staff with 11 games started. He went 7-4 with a 4.25 ERA and struck out 79 hitters in 59 innings and walked just 15. He was second in Region IX in wins, strikeouts and ERA.

Cory Wouters (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) was named the Region IX Freshman of the Year and was named to the Region IX second team. The pitcher/DH led MCC in hitting and was second in Region IX with a .416 batting average. He had 12 doubles, nine home runs and 44 RBIs in 52 games with a .468 on-base mark and a slugged .642. He also appeared in 11 games on the mound with four starts going 3-7 with an 8.71 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 41 innings.

Other second team selections included a trio of sophomores: catcher Michael Quick (Oshawa, Ontario) first baseman Jackson Yeager (Omaha Westside), and pitcher Ethan Badcock (Adelaide, Australia).

Quick was second on the team hitting .393 with a .488 on-base average, 15 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 50 RBIs. Yeager was third on the team batting .371 with 19 doubles, eight homers and a team-best 55 RBIs in 51 games.

Badcock was named second-team all-Region IX relief pitcher. He appeared in 21 games out of the bullpen and led the team and all Region IX relievers with six saves. In his 45.2 innings of work, he allowed 40 hits and struck out 63 hitters.

Those players receiving honorable mention for MCC were: outfielder Will Edwards (Sydney, Australia); utility player Luke Bies (Omaha Gross); pitcher Jereniel Herrera (Panama City, Panama).

Edwards, a sophomore, hit .369 with four homers and 39 RBIs in 40 games played. Bies, who saw time in both the infield and outfield tied for the team lead with 10 home runs. He batted .362 with 11 doubles, three triples and 50 RBIs in 51 games.

Herrera, sophomore right-hander, missed the first six weeks of the season with an injury then went 4-2 with a save in eight games with five starts. He pitched 36 innings and struck out 51 hitters with a 4.75 ERA.

Sophomore Jake Quinlivan (Sydney, Australia) was named to the all-defensive team.
