NSP Urges Online Safety for Safer Internet Day

February  11, 2025 (Lincoln, NEB.)  —  Today is Safer Internet Day! The Nebraska State Patrol Tech Crimes Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce are urging parents to get engaged in their kids’ online activity.

Safer Internet Day has grown into a worldwide effort since starting in 2004. The program delivers tips for safe practices online, information for teachers and schools, and guides for how to talk with your kids about maintaining safety in the internet age.

“Digital technology is a powerful tool with many benefits, but it’s critical that while our children learn how to use it, they also learn how to stay safe online,” said Lt. Monty Lovelace, Commander of NSP Tech Crimes. “We encourage all parents to have open communication with their kids about online activity and how to use the internet wisely.”

This year’s Safer Internet Day focuses on several important topics:

Generative AI
Media literacy and critical thinking
Civility
Picking on peers
Wellness, identity, and self-respect
Scams, predators, and creeps
