Smith Statement on Pardon of Hunter Biden

Adrian Smith 3rd Dist

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement after President Joe Biden announced he had signed a pardon for his son Hunter Biden.

"Just as President Biden lied when he said he would not pardon his son Hunter, he isn’t telling the whole truth about the pardon he issued for him tonight. While his statement was framed as addressing Hunter’s gun and tax charges, this blanket pardon covers all crimes Hunter may have committed from 2014 through 2023—a period covering his son's suspect business dealings in Ukraine, China, and other foreign nations—and removes them from further DOJ scrutiny. Hunter's refusal to comply with investigations by the House Ways and Means, Oversight, and Judiciary Committees shows the Biden family is not serious about letting the American people make an informed judgment on the evidence pointing to extensive corruption. President Biden has gone back on his word and abused the power of the presidency. This is unacceptable."
