UNK Volleyball: Regier Has Career-High 18 Kills in Sweep of Emporia
Senior outside Asha Regier had a career-high 18 kills to help fifth-ranked Nebraska Kearney easily sweep Emporia State (-15, -16, -12) Saturday night in Kansas.
The Lopers (26-1, 13-1) take the season series from the Hornets (16-8, 8-6) who came in regionally-ranked. The second version of the all-important region rankings comes out Wednesday afternoon.
Regier (Newton, Kan.) had 14 kills in her first 15 swings with no errors. She finished up hitting .586 (18-1-29) with her previous best kill total of 17 coming twice last season. UNK out hit E-State by a .353-.097 margin to record the 35th consecutive win in the series. The Lopers also served up five aces, had seven more blocks and 15 more digs.
Besides Regier's heroics, five others had a kill including Missouri sophomore middle Mia Berg (nine) and Kansas junior middle Abby Rose (five). Both hit well over .300 with Berg having six block assists and two digs. In the backrow, Michigan grad libero Alli Wiese had 16 digs with Lincoln grad right side Lauren Taubenheim at 13.
The Lopers finish up the regular season next weekend at Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri. Those matches will be held on Thursday/Friday night.
