Lady Indians fall in four sets to Western Nebraska

The McCook Community College volleyball team dropped a critical Region IX South home match Tuesday falling to Western Nebraska 3-1
MCC took the first set 25-11.
“After the first set I thought we were off to a pretty good start, then we just got complacent,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. “We just didn’t show up the last three sets,” said Kobza.
The Lady Indians hit the ball at a .286 rate held the Cougars to a minus .069. MCC had a 72 percent sideout percentage and held Western Nebraska to 32 percent.
MCC lost the second set 25-19, dropped the third set 25-20 and trailed 11-0 in the deciding fourth set before posting their first point on the way to a 25-12 loss.

“We seemed to forget how to score on our side and just expected errors on our opponent,” said Kobza.
Sophomore Charlee Russick (Berthoud, Colo.) led MCC with 10 kills on the night to go with 15 digs and a service ace. Peightan Swanson (freshman, Severance, Colo.) had seven kills and one block assist.

“I don’t think any player played amazing and somebody’s going to have to step up eventually, but nobody did that tonight,” said Kobza.
