No. 4 Northeastern JC sweeps past MCC volleyball
STERLING, Colo. – The McCook Community College volleyball team fell 0-3 to No. 4 Northeastern Junior College Wednesday at the Bank of Colorado Events Center. The Plainswomen won 25-16, 25-16, 25-21.
“We did some good things at times, but had a handful of simple communication errors,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.
Sophomore Romina Martinez Castro (Cochabamba, Bolivia) led the Lady Indians with 10 kills to go along with three blocks, six digs and an ace. Freshman Rowan Tribelhorn (Yuma, Colo.) had eight kills and an assist block.
“One thing that really hurt us was our lack of scoring on the outside,” said Kobza. “We just have to keep working on that and learn how to get points even when put in tough situations.”
Freshman Charlee Russick (Berthoud, Colo.) had one kill and six digs. Caylin Barnett (sophomore, McCook) had six digs and a kill, and freshman Ailynn Wright (Sterling, Colo.) had two kills and an assist block.
Sophomore Cibeles Bothwell (Spring, Texas) was credited with six digs.
Freshman Abby Thompson (Bison, S.D.) led MCC with seven assists. Megan Walker (freshman, Haxtun, Colo.) had six assists, six digs and one ace.
NJC improves to 18-4 overall and 3-0 in the Region IX south.
