Northeastern JC takes over first place with sweep over MCC

STERLING, Colo. – In a battle of the top two teams in the Region IX South standings, No. 5 Northeastern Junior College swept past the McCook Community College volleyball team Thursday 3-0.
The Plainswomen won 25-9, 25-12 and 25-15.
NJC’s Macon Butler led all players with 11 kills, Kiera Heaven Loe had eight. Setter Kennedy Ker had 19 assists and three service aces while and Evelyn Gavette had 16 digs.
Statistics for MCC were not available.
Northeastern JC improves to 17-3 on the season and takes over sole possession of first place in the Region IX South division with a 4-0 mark.
MCC falls to 7-11 on the season and 3-1 in Region IX South play.
On Saturday MCC will be in Scottsbluff to face Western Nebraska (4-16) at 2 p.m.
Next week, the Lady Indians have a pair of road matches starting with the rivalry match at North Platte (6-11) Wednesday followed by a match in Lincoln Oct. 4 against Southeast Community College.
