NSP Investigating Death at Keith County Jail

November 17, 2025 (Ogalalla, Neb.) — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a death that occurred at the Keith County Jail on Sunday.
Sunday evening, NSP was contacted by the Keith County Sheriff’s Office regarding a death that had occurred at the jail. Keith County Jail staff had located an inmate deceased inside a cell. The death appeared to be a suicide. There was no other person inside the cell at the time.
The inmate was identified as Dawson Reifschneider, 25. Reifschneider was being held in Keith County Jail while awaiting trial in Scotts Bluff County.
The Keith County Attorney’s Office has requested the Nebraska State Patrol conduct the grand jury investigation.
